Hair Removal

If you're tired of shaving and waxing away hair, then laser hair removal is the permanent solution you're looking for.

What is Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a method of permanently removing hair through the use of a laser beam. As the beam penetrates the skin, it damages the hair follicles underneath, preventing hair from growing back.

Who can get Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal can be used to remove hair from many different areas of the body. Some of the most commonly treated areas include the legs, bikini area, chest, arms, neck, stomach, and underarm. It's even safe to use on the face, in areas like the lip and chin.

While laser hair removal can be used pretty much anywhere, not everyone is a good candidate for the procedure. Typically, it works best on people with light skin and dark hair. However, both men and women can benefit from treatments.

What happens during Laser Hair Removal?

We uses the Icon Laser by Cynosure for all laser hair removal treatments. During the procedure, we use a handheld device that shoots a laser into the treatment area. This light penetrates the top layer of skin without harming it until it reaches the hair follicles underneath. Because the hair contains more pigment than the skin, the energy from the laser is attracted to it, collecting enough heat to destroy the hair shafts.

The Icon laser also comes with advanced contact cooling, meaning that it will work to cool off your skin during this treatment so that you don't feel any of the heat or burning.

How many treatments do I need & how long will results last?

One treatment is not enough for long-term results, as all of the hair might not take to the treatment the first time. Usually, most patients require six to eight treatments about eight to 12 weeks apart for the best results. You'll begin to notice results within three weeks of each treatment as your hair begins to fall out.

Results should be permanent. However, your body can often produce new hair follicles due to age, hormonal changes, or diet, so these may need a touch-up treatment to remove.

Skin Rejuvination

It’s not unusual for a woman to feel discouraged by fine lines and wrinkles while looking in the mirror. Luckily, treatment is available in the form of the PicoSure® Laser by Cynosure®, which uses the body’s natural process to heal problematic skin. Basim Abdelkarim, MD serves patients in Upland, CA, and the surrounding areas with specialized treatment plans that reduce the appearance of aging and gives patients a renewed sense of confidence.

How does PicoSure work?

The PicoSure laser activates your body’s natural process for creating healthy, youthful looking skin. It can begin to heal problem skin without any pain or downtime afterward.

By using gentle pressure and heat, the PicoSure skin revitalization treatment activates the body’s immune system by squeezing cells, therefore triggering a signaling process that alerts the body to produce more collagen and elastin. These are the building blocks of glowing, beautiful skin that help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scars.

It also targets and removes melanin in the skin, which can cause sunspots, freckles, or other unwanted skin pigmentation.

Other treatments use heat only instead of the combined heat and pressure for treatment. This intentionally burns the skin to force it to heal. PicoSure, on the other hand, uses mostly pressure. Instead of a painful recovery that lasts for days, most patients only have mild redness for a few hours, making it safer and more comfortable than traditional treatments.

What should I expect during treatment?

PicoSure skin revitalization treatments typically take between 10-15 minutes with no special prep or procedures needed beforehand. Because many patients experience minimal discomfort, similar to the snapping of a rubber band, Dr. Abdelkarim may apply a topical numbing cream to help make the procedure as comfortable as possible. He then places shields over your eyes for you to wear for the duration of the treatment.

After treatment, you may experience one to three hours of minimal swelling and redness. Dr. Abdelkarim may suggest you put sunscreen on the treated area for a few days afterward, as the skin is more susceptible to sun damage. You can return to your daily activities directly after treatment.

How long do results last?

PicoSure skin revitalization treatments are long lasting, as they stimulate the production of collagen in the body. However, some patients find that certain pigment conditions resurface over time. Many patients testify that a PicoSure skin revitalization treatment every six months is the most effective way to prevent unwanted pigmentation from returning while also slowing the signs of aging.

Scar Removal/PhotoFacial

Having scars can make you feel less confident and decrease your self esteem. If you'd like to improve your appearance, we offer painless scar removal treatments using the Cynosure Icon Laser.

What is Scar Removal?

Scar removal is a method of decreasing the appearance of scar tissue for a more smooth and natural look. Scar tissue is heated with a laser, causing it die. New, fresh tissue will grow and take its place, giving your skin a rejuvenated look. Because it's a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure, you can be back on your feet just a few minutes after the procedure is over.

What types of Scars can be Removed?

Laser scar removal can tackle a number of tricky scars, from old acne marks to lingering surgical marks. It's a great choice for both body and face scars.

People of all ages, skin types, and sexes can benefit from this treatment.

How does a Scar Removal procedure work?

Scar removal is completely non-invasive, meaning you won't have to block off an entire day for the treatment. In fact, It might take as little as 30 minutes from start to finish, depending on the size and amount of scars you have.

During the procedure, we use a handheld device to deliver pulses of fine laser light into the deep layers of skin. This light damages the scarred tissues, causing them to die. This will stimulate your body to produce new, healthy tissue to replace it, reducing the appearance of the scar and tightening your skin in the process. Additionally, this procedure will promote the production of collagen and elastin, two of the most important building blocks for healthy-looking skin.

Are the results permanent?

Most people experience great results after a series of three to five treatments. The number of treatments you need depends on various factors, all of which will be discussed at your consultation. You'll notice your skin looking clearer about a week after the first treatment, but it might take up to a year for the full results to show.

Most scar removal results are permanent; however, you may need an additional touch-up treatment if you didn't get the results you wanted during the first treatment sessions.

Tattoo Removal

Your tattoo felt like a symbol that would embody who you were forever. However, people change, and now the tattoo you once loved feels out of place. Fortunately, PicoSure® by Cynosure® is effective at removing tattoos of all sizes, colors, and locations.

How does Tattoo Removal work?

PicoSure is the world’s first picosecond laser that works to remove unwanted ink on the body, without harming the surrounding tissue. It uses PressureWave® technology, which produces rapid bursts of energy to create pressure changes that break apart ink particles in the skin. Once those particles break down, your lymphatic system absorbs them and your immune system destroys them. PicoSure can remove tattoos of all colors and sizes, including multicolored tattoos.

The procedure is non-invasive and requires no downtime afterward. Typically, it involves fewer treatments than traditional laser tattoo removal.

What can I expect during treatment?

We start by giving you a set of protective eye shields which you wear for the duration of the treatment. We apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort. We test your skin’s reaction to the laser to determine the most effective energy level for treatment. Then, the PicoSure lasers pulse beams of intense light through the top layers of your skin. For many, the discomfort of this is no more than the snapping of a rubber band.

Each treatment takes between 10-15 minutes. However, the treatment time can vary depending on the size, color, and number of different colors comprise the tattoo.

We create a personalized treatment plan based on your tattoo, including how many treatments you will need. Typically, there are six to eight weeks between each treatment.

Are there any Side Effects?

Because PicoSure uses pressure and heat to break apart ink particles, patients are less likely to experience many of the traditional side effects associated with laser tattoo removal, such as pain and prolonged redness. Many patients experience between one and three hours of swelling and redness in the treated area.

Because PicoSure targets melanin to remove pigmentation, excess melanin in the skin due to a heavy tan may interfere with the treatment process. Using SPF30 or higher sunscreen before and after treatment is recommended, as it makes your skin temporarily more susceptible to sun damage.

Pelleve Skin Tightening

Pelleve is a treatment system that can improve the appearance of cellulite. The Pelleve PelleFirm system is completely non-invasive form of laser treatments. It uses mechanical massage to precisely treat areas with cellulite. It can be used on the abdomen, the buttocks, the love handles, the thighs, and other areas that are riddled with cellulite. Even after a person no longer has the fat deposits, those ugly cellulite dimples may remain. Pelleve is a solution that combines particularly well with SculpSure for this reason. As with SculpSure, several treatments may be needed.

In addition to eliminating cellulite, Pelleve can also be used for skin tightening.

What is Skin Tightening?

Skin tightening is a procedure that works to reduce signs of aging, such as wrinkled and loose skin. A laser is used to penetrate the top layer of skin to the deep layer underneath. The heat of the laser causes the skin to tighten up, helping skin look firmer and tighter.

What problems can Skin Tightening fix?

A skin tightening session can help reduce many of the signs of aging, especially around the neck and face. In particular, it can reduce facial wrinkles, eye creases, and sagging jowls to help you feel better about your appearance.

Both men and women of all skin tones and skin types can benefit from the power of laser skin tightening. However, the best candidates are between 30 and 60 years of age.

What happens during a Skin Tightening procedure?

We use the Cynosure Pelleve Laser for all treatments, as it is one of the most innovative lasers on the market. During the procedure, he will use a special handpiece to deliver radiofrequency energy into the treatment area. This beam of energy goes through the epidermis and down into the deeper layers of skin, causing them to heat up and contract. In turn, this promotes the production of collagen, a natural substance which leads to increased skin firmness.

Because the treatment is painless, you will not need any anesthesia or medication. In fact, all you might notice during the procedure is a slight warming sensation. Afterward, you'll be able to return to your normal daily routine with no setbacks.

How long do results last?

Typically, you will notice a slight improvement right after the treatment. In most patients, however, one treatment is not enough for full results. In most cases, it takes up to six treatments about three weeks apart. This gives your body the time it needs to produce more collagen. Most people see final results 90 days after the first treatment session.

After the initial skin tightening sessions, you can expect results to last up to a year, after which you might need an annual touch up session to maintain your dramatic results.
